Yerba mate and its benefits

Thanks to the recent interest of science in Ilex paraguariensis, the scientific name of the plant popularly known as yerba mate, more and more of its benefits are being discovered every day. Among the benefits are: delay in cellular aging, aid in weight loss, drop in circulating glucose levels in the blood and even a decrease in LDL (bad) cholesterol levels in the blood, providing a protective factor for the heart.

Reducing the risk of tumors, protecting the heart, delaying the appearance of wrinkles and weight loss are only possible because the plant contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, caffeine and other components such as chlorogenic acid. However, these results will only be possible with the consumption of 500 milliliters to 1 liter of mate tea every day and, of course, with the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits.

Ingestion is recommended at least 30 minutes before and after lunch or dinner, otherwise caffeine may impair the absorption of vitamins and minerals present in meals. It is worth remembering that the same caffeine stimulates the body's state of alertness and, therefore, can cause insomnia, so it is better to avoid consuming mate after 5 pm.

Important: because it contains caffeine, a stimulant that increases blood pressure, yerba mate is contraindicated for hypertensive people.

A tip to alleviate the bitter taste of yerba mate, remembering that if you want to lose weight you should consume it – without sugar, just with sweetener, is to blend the infusion with sweet fruits such as pineapple, apple, mango and melon.

Mate suchá with mango and lemon

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons of mate

1 medium mango

1 dessert spoon of lemon juice.

Method of preparation:

Boil 1 liter of water. Place the mate in a jug and pour in the boiling liquid. Wait a minute, strain and let it cool. Chop the mango and blend it with the mate and lemon juice in a blender. Serve chilled.
