Popcorn for health!

2A study recently released by the University of Scranton in the United States revealed that popcorn is a food very rich in antioxidants.

Antioxidants are substances capable of delaying or preventing damage caused to cells by free radicals, substances that form in our body as a result of stress, pollution, excessive consumption of processed foods, among other factors.

Just to give you an idea, 1 serving of 33g popcorn can contain up to 300mg of antioxidants, almost twice as much as fruit,

which carry 160mg of the substance in 80g portions.

It is rich in fiber, a serving of popcorn can offer more than 70% of the daily consumption of whole grains recommended by doctors and nutritionists. An example is that 1 serving of popcorn has five times more fiber than the same amount of lettuce. It is the crunchy shell of popcorn that has a high concentration of fiber – a cup of the food contains 12% of a person's daily needs, benefiting the digestive system and regularizing intestinal function.

slide-pipoca-01The recommendation is to consume 1 and a half cups (tea) of popcorn per day, but avoid microwave popcorn, excess margarine/butter/oil and salt are harmful to your health…be very careful!
