Over the last month there has been a lot of discussion about human food and what it is. This is because Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) banned the sale of products labeled as human food. To this end, he claimed that the name human food can mislead the consumer, as it does not clearly say what that food is, and replacing meals with this product poses health risks, as it does not have all the nutrients necessary for nutrition. healthy. These products should now be sold under the name “Bran-based mixture”

But after all, what is human food? The composition may vary according to the recipe or the manufacturer, but one of the best-known compositions includes: wheat fiber, soy milk powder (soy extract), brown linseed, brown sugar, rolled oats, sesame seeds with shell, wheat germ, unflavored gelatin, guarana powder, brewer's yeast and cocoa powder. This formula has been a success for just over a year, promising weight loss, reducing cholesterol and fat absorption and improving intestinal function, among other benefits.

The main benefit of human food is the fact that it is a food very rich in fiber, which increases the feeling of satiety, improves intestinal function and reduces the absorption of cholesterol. Therefore, ideally it should be used to enrich some preparations and not to replace meals. If this is done, nutrients will be missing, especially proteins, which are not present in large quantities in the ingredients. It is important to remember that as it is a food rich in fiber, water consumption is very important to improve bowel function.

Human food can be added to recipes for cakes, breads, soups, smoothies, salads, etc. Just remember to look at the packaging, as there is sweet and salty human food. And if you are diabetic, be aware of the amount of sugar present in sweet human food, preferring those that are enriched with nuts, which gives a pleasant flavor without the need for sugar.
